About Brian J. Wallace, QC, CArb
More than 30 years practice experience in public law on constitutional, administrative and tax law matters including:
- Representing clients before the Supreme Court of Canada, the superior and appellate courts in B.C., Ontario and the North West Territories, the Tax Court of Canada, and both the trial and appellate divisions of the Federal Court as well as several quasi-judicial tribunals in B.C., including the BC Property Assessment Appeal Board and the BC Utilities Commission.
- Public policy development work, including acting as senior commission counsel to the Cohen Commission of Inquiry, counsel to the B.C. Electoral Boundaries Commission, and the B.C. Utilities Commission.
- Experience with professional regulation as a bencher and treasurer (president) of the Law Society of British Columbia.
- Commercial arbitration and mediation experience both as counsel and a neutral in disputes involving: commercial tenancies, franchising, commodity pricing, partnerships, and joint ventures.
International experience as a trade commissioner and negotiator including service as chair of the Canadian delegation in the negotiation of joint recommendations for the cross-border practice of law among Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.
Chartered Arbitrator, ADR Institute of Canada and a member of the London Court of International Arbitration and of the BC International Commercial Arbitration Centre.
Trained and practiced as a mediator over the past 15 years and accredited to the BC Mediation Roster Society.
Practice background particularly relevant to counsel or dispute resolution work in matters involving governments and other regulators, corporate and professional governance issues, and complex valuations.
